Description

Cucamelon Cucumber Seeds

[67 days] Mexican Sour Gherkin, mouse melon or “Sandita”, this vining mini-melon has a unique taste and amazing versatility in the kitchen. The vines look like regular cucumber plants, but the fruit is something special—grape-size fruits that seriously look like mini-watermelons and taste mostly like a cucumber, but with watermelon and citrus overtones. Super crunchy and slightly tart, these little guys are great in stir fries, pickled, added in salsas and chutneys, or simply eaten raw.

Great as a greenhouse fruit or started indoors early and then set outside like a normal cucumber. Much easier to grow than standard cucumbers, cucamelons have no pests, are drought resistant, and happily grow outside as well as in the greenhouse.

Open-pollinated

Common Questions

What temperature should I germinate my Cucamelon seeds at? Cucuamelon cucumbers should be sown at 32°C to achieve germination success, this can take anywhere between 5 and 10 days to complete.

Why are my Cucamelon cucumbers so seedy? Because cucumbers are 98% water the plants need lots or nutrients and water during maturity. If they lack these two things when growing then only the reproductive assets of the plant will be thriving instead of developing a healthy, plump cucumber.

Will my Cucamelon be attacked by pests or disease? Cucamelons are resistant to powdery mildew which can reek havoc amonst your other vegetables in the patch. The plants and fruits are also very good at being resistant to many diseases and pests and will be free from beetles or rodents.
