Large, succulent berries and amazingly high yields. A great currant for our northern climes.
sorry, currently out of stock
The Ben Connan currant is one of the heaviest croppers and earliest to ripen of all the blackcurrant varieties. The fruit is large, luscious, and full of excellent flavour while the bush itself has a compact habit. This perennial grows well here in Great Britain and its large harvest (up to 3.5kg/over 7lb from the second season onwards) will delight for up to 12 years after planting.
Blackcurrants are an excellent mid-story addition to permaculture food forests and to any poly-culture looking to incorporate perennials.
Ben Connan currants have an excellent resistance to mildew and a great frost tolerance.
An award of Merit winner from the Royal Horticultural Society.
Delicious when eaten fresh in a fruit salad, in jams, or added to a summer pudding. Great for freezing and drying as well.
