[300 days] One the first onions of the season, Shenshyu yellow globes were introduced to the UK from Japan in the early 70's. In the decades since, it’s proven to be a hardy, overwintering onion that can survive temperatures down to minus 18°C (0°F). The plant itself offers superb bulbs with crisp, white flesh and straw-coloured skins.
This particular onion grows well in heavy soils and provides large bulbs with half the effort of spring-sown varieties. And since they’re ready for harvest during the drier months of June and July, outdoor curing is as easy as pie!
