Common Questions

How do I protect my Scarlet Emperor plants from slugs? You can make your own clotches to protect your Scarlet Emperor runner beans from prying slugs. Slugs affect your runner bean plants the most when they are still young and not established. You can protect your seedlings by cutting empty drink bottles in half and placing them over your young plants. If you are worried by infestations then you can start your seeds indoors!

How do you grow Scarlet Emperor runner beans? Scarlet Emperor seeds should be sown into soil that is moisture retentive and where sun is bright all day. The plant will need lots of support for the high tops and if you don't install canes or trellis early then it can be too late once the plant is established.

What is eating my Scarlet Emperor runner bean plants? Pests love eating your young runner bean seedlings. Aphids, slugs, ants, and spider mites love biting through and sucking all the sap from your plants. You can protect your runner beans by cutting a drink bottle in half to cover your seedlings until established.
