[83 days] If you’re a new gardener and want to try your hand at sweet corn, then the Swift F1 is the variety for you. Super easy to grow and extra sweet, Swift sweet corn is an early-producing plant with a dwarf habit ideal for the standard sized garden plot or allotment.
It germinates quickly and has incredible vigour, producing 2-3 cobs per plant, each roughly 18cm (7½”) with 16-18 rows of bright yellow tender sweet kernels apiece. Unlike most hybrids, the Swift F1 can be planted alongside other varieties of corn and doesn’t need to be isolated. (Sow with Lark F1 and Wagtail varieties to eat corn all season long!)
The flavour is rich and incredibly sugar-sweet. Delicious raw or cooked!
When should you sow your Swift F1 sweetcorn seeds? Sow your Swift F1 sweetcorn seeds indoors in April and May at a temperature of 18–21°C. Plant your seeds in large module trays at a depth of about 2.5cm to start the germination. Swift F1 germination takes about 7 to 10 days to complete.
How do you stop Swift sweetcorn from pest infestations? Beetles, maggots and wireworms love eating the seeds of your sweetcorn and can destroy your crops quickly. You can prevent pest infestations by spraying your Swift F1 plants with insecticide that contains Bacilulus thuringiensis.
What is Swift F1 sweetcorn? Hybrid seeds are called F1 due to the selective breeding of vegetables by cross pollinating two different parent plants. F1 means Filial 1, which means first children. Swift F1 sweetcorn as stable and have been bred to specifically combat most diseases and bolting issues.
