Amsterdam Forcing Carrot Seeds

[84 days] One of the best choices for forcing outdoors or under cloches, Amsterdam Forcing is one of the earliest carrot varieties to mature. They’re bred for use as baby carrots (i.e. finger carrots) and taste especially sweet and tender when picked young. The roots are uniform, cylindrical and slim and perform well fresh or frozen. Great direct seeded in the greenhouse through the winter or outdoors in early spring. Pull young.

Common Questions

Is it too late to sow Amsterdam Forcing carrots? Carrot seeds can be sown from early March to late August and can be harvested pretty much all year round. If you're looking for a Spring harvest you can sow your Amsterdam Forcing in the greenhouse over the winter period.

Can you start Amsterdam Forcing in seed trays? No! You should sow your carrot seeds directly in to soil as they do not like transplanting after germination and will often stunt in growth or result in mishaped carrots.

How long does it take to germinate Amsterdam Forcing? Carrots grow best in cooler temperatues and take approximately 14 to 21 days to sprout. Amsterdam Forcing germinate best with a soil temperature of at least 10ºC.
