A tow-toned radish whose colours literally “sparkle,” the Sparkler radish roots have a mild, earthy flavour with just a touch of sweetness.
Sparkler Radish Seeds
[25 days]A classic radish, Sparklers are scarlet red on top, creamy white below, and have a satisfying crispness. The roots are globe-shaped and uniform, with smooth shoulders. In addition to their beautiful color, Sparkler radishes are especially known for their sweetness. In the kitchen, they’re delicious hot or cold, and add a spot of vibrant color to crudité plates and salads. Or serve them greens and all with butter and salt. These particular radishes pair delightfully well with feta or and chèvre cheeses, cucumbers, and eggs.
Pick as soon as the tops show and eat within one week of harvesting.
How do you grow Sparkler radishes from seed? Sparkler radishes need at least 5-6 hours of direct sunlight a day to really thrive in the Spring. Once the summer arrives you can sow your radishes into a slightly shadier spot in your garden. If the soil temperatures get too high it can cause your radishes to bolt and become bitter in their taste.
How long do Sparkler radishes take to grow? Radishes are widely regarded as one of the quickest and easiest vegetable to grow. In little over 4 weeks you can be adding your garden grown radishes to fresh salads. Sow your seeds into fertile moist soil every 2 weeks for a fresh crop throughout the growing season.
What pests are eating my Sparkler radishes and how do I stop them? Beetles, maggots and other insects tend to attack your radish crops, leaving holes in their roots and leaves. You can combat pests from attacking your Sparkler radishes by tidying up all the plant debris and protecting your crops with netting.
