[27 days] One of the older heirloom radish varieties, White Icicles are one of the finest and longest of early pure white radishes. The roots grow to about 6” long, and some out crisp, with a mildly spicy, rich flavour. Because of its beauty, it’s great for both home gardens and market growers. The leaves are quite edible too. What’s more, it’s super easy to grow. A great all-around choice for radish lovers.
How do you grow White Icicle radishes from seeds? Sow your Long Icicle seeds into moist soil, about 5 inches apart, when the dangers of frost have gone. The radish seeds will sprout in about 4-6 days when germinating and should be ready for germinating after about four weeks. You can sow radish every 2 weeks to continue harvesting throughout the growing season.
Should I cut the flowers off of my Long White Icicle radishes? If your White Icicle radishes have started to flower already then this tends to mean that they have already bolted. You should decide whether to harvest now or not. Radishes that have bolted tend to develop a bitter taste and woodier in looks and feel.
How often do White Icicle radishes need to be watered? Once the seed has germinated daily watering is required to ensure strong healthy growth.
