Description

Miranda Broccoli Seeds

[95-105 days] One of the newer Calabrese varieties, Miranda has a stunning colour, a delightful taste, and is reputed to be more nutritious than standard green broccoli. Both the main head and the sides shoots that come after it are an exceptional shade of purple (which you can maintain while cooking by adding some lemon juice). It’s a medium-late cropper and benefits from being set out a bit later than other starts as well. Also, be sure to give it plenty of space, as it can grow to be pretty tall.

Common Questions

How do I protect my Miranda broccoli from pests? You can use fleece covers to keep away many of the pests that will attack your Miranda broccoli. Pests like aphids, maggot flies, flea bettles and sting bugs will love to feed off of your crops. Place the fabric over your plants to prevent pests from getting to your crops and tuck the edges in to soil or keep them in place with rocks.

What is the main problem when growing Miranda broccoli? Pests that attack your crops can spread a fungal disease called Blackleg. Blackleg causes your sprouts to rot and can spread quickly across your Miranda broccoli. Make sure your soil is well-drained and free of plant debris.

Why are the heads of my Miranda broccoli not growing? Broccoli likes to be kept cool, planted early in spring ready for a summer harvest. If your Miranda plant isn't getting enough nutrients or water then they can become laggy and begin to bolt. Extreme cold or hot weather can cause your Miranda broccoli to button.
