Forono Beetroot Seeds
[60 days] Forono beetroot is an old Italian variety that is easy to grow, super-flavourful, and, due to its cylindrical shape, easy to slice. The roots themselves are a deep, dark red, 6-8” (7-10cm) long, and the texture remains excellent longer than many other varieties. Many gardeners find Forono beets more disease and insect resistant than other varieties, and since the roots are the same size around throughout and can be sliced uniformly, cooks love them! As a bonus, the leaves of this beet are especially tasty. Will grow well in just about any place in Britain and stores well.
Can you soak your Forono beetroot seeds before planting out? To help the germination process you can soak your beetroot seeds overnight. Once they begin to sink you can plant them out into the garden!
What type of soil should I sow my Forono beetroot seeds in? Forono beetroot will grow in most soil conditions, however it's known not to grow well in alkaline and acid rich soil. It is recommended that you use fertile soil, so you can mulch your soil with rotted manure/compost before sowing your seeds.
What are good companion plants for beetroot? Beetroot shouldn't be planted near field mustard but can be good companions with: Onions, Beans, Lettuce, Cabbage and Radish.
