[120 days] One of our favourite heirloom pickling cabbages, Red Drumhead is super easy to grow and yields beautiful densely-packed heads from late summer on. Its leaves are a gorgeous deep purple-red and the hearts a striking dark red.
The colour, texture, and ability to hold its flavour make Red Drumhead ideal for both cooking and pickling. It also creates a colourful accent to raw dishes and salads.
Spring planted, this variety matures from September through to Christmas. It also stores well.
How long does it take for Red Drumhead cabbage seeds to germinate? Sow your Red Drumhead cabbage seeds into module trays and they should have finished the germination process after 8 days. Transplant the seedlings to the garden when they are around 6 inches tall.
