Description

White Silver Chard Seeds

[60 days] A strikingly beautiful and reliable variety, White Silver Swiss Chard is a classic favourite among UK growers for its robust growth, crisp white stems and glossy, deep green leaves. Often referred to simply as ‘Silverbeet’, this versatile leafy green is prized for both its ornamental appeal and culinary value.

White Silver is known for its strong bolt resistance and ability to thrive in a wide range of growing conditions. It performs especially well in cooler UK climates, making it a dependable crop nearly year-round. You can harvest baby leaves in as little as 30 days or allow it to mature into large, flavour-packed leaves perfect for steaming, sautéing, or adding to soups and stews.

Ideal for successive sowings from spring through early autumn, this chard offers a continuous supply of nutritious greens well into the winter. Even after light frosts, the plants continue producing tender, tasty leaves. The thick white stems can be cooked much like celery or used as a crunchy base in stir-fries.

Height: 50cm (20"). Spread: 40cm (16").

Common Questions

Can White Silver Swiss Chard grow in partial shade? Yes, it does well in full sun but will still thrive in partial shade, especially in warmer months where a little shelter can prevent premature bolting.

How do you harvest White Silver Swiss Chard? Pick the outer leaves as needed by cutting them about 2 inches above the base. The inner leaves will continue growing for ongoing harvests.

Is Swiss Chard White Silver frost hardy? It is! This variety can tolerate light frosts, and mature plants will keep producing through the colder months if well-established before winter.

Can I eat the stems of White Silver Chard? Absolutely. The stems are crunchy and mildly sweet. You can chop and cook them like asparagus or use in soups, stir-fries, or gratins.
