A classic heavy-yielding French bean perfect for both early-season and main cropping.

Hunter French Bean Seeds

[80 days] A variety that combines the strong harvest of Runner beans with the tenderness and reliability of traditional French Beans, Hunter French beans have become a staple in many British gardens. The beans themselves are bright green, white-seeded, almost stringless, and grow to about 12 inches (25 cm) long. The plants grow well both under protection and outdoors, and can be happily interplanted with peas and runner beans.

Like all French beans, these freeze well. They’re also great for drying and using as haricot beans. And of course, they taste great both raw and cooked.

These are a climbing bean, so make sure to provide them a trellis, canes, or other support.

Common Questions

Do Hunter French beans need a trellis? Yes. Hunter French bean plants can grow up to 15 feet depending on conditions. Their climbing vines need a trellis or staking to help support the weight of the plant.

Why do your Hunter plants have yellow leaves? If your French bean plant is producing yellow leaves or the leaves are turning yellow then your vegetable plant may have a virus. There is no cure for common French bean viruses, you have to destroy the plant and rotate your crops yearly.

Can you plant Hunter French Beans in pots? No. French beans need a container or spot in the garden that is deep enough to support frames to support the heavy climbing vines.
