This easy to grow, non-climbing, snow pea is a prolific producer of stringless, edible pods that keep on producing after multiple pickings. The dwarf vines are perfect for container gardens or allotments short on space. A favorite in Asian cooking, these peas are excellent when picked young and stir-fried, or simply eaten raw.

Oregon Sugar Pod Pea Seeds

70 days spring sown. 250 days fall sown.

A gardener’s favorite, Oregon Sugar Pod peas are vigorous producers of long, flat pods that are mild-flavored and incredibly sweet. As a dwarf pea, they are extremely easy to grow and unlike other vining peas, hold up well without staking. The pods are best when picked young (about 8 cm long), and with frequent harvesting, will keep producing until the weather becomes too hot. This particular variety is resistant to the pea virus, common wilt and powdery mildew.

May be sown from February to late May in UK climates. For continuous production, plant successively every few weeks.

RHS Award of Garden Merit winner.

A legume that likes cool weather. Plant in Spring and Fall to avoid heat. Tolerates much soil variation, but prefers a moist, humus- rich non-acid loam that drains well.

RHS Award of Garden Merit winner. Recommended by the National Institute of Agricultural Botany.

Common Questions

How tall do Oregon Sugar Pod plants grow? Your Oregon Sugar Pod plants should grow to about 30 inches tall, producing pods that are between 4 to 5 inches long. Once mature you will have a long harvest of pea pods throughout the growing season.

How long can you harvest Oregon Sugar Pod peas for? If you harvest young pea pods when the plant it young you can extend the production for up to 3 months. If you allow your Oregon pea plant to mature and develop seeds then you will have missed the opportunity for a continuous harvest for a couple of months.

Can you let Oregon Sugar pea pods mature? Yes. You can begin to harvest your Oregon Sugar Pods and enjoy them as mangetout. You can also let them mature a little longer and harvest when they are mature small super sweet peas.

What is eating my Oregon Sugar Pod peas? Aphids and Pea weevils love attacking your peas and can stunt the plant in the early stages of growth. Aphids tend to attack your vegetable crops by sucking the sap out of the plant. Pea weevils start to come out in Spring and will lay their eggs in your pea seeds. Once they begin to hatch they will munch on your peas leaving holes.
