[75-80 days] The St. Pierre tomato is an indeterminate, heirloom beef-steak tomato actively sought out in the street markets of France. In most climates, it’s fairly hardy and produces moderate to high yields early in the season. The fruits are round, medium-sized, 3-inches in diameter. The soft, meaty flesh has good to excellent flavours, and produces especially well in cooler growing regions. They are easy to grow, and are particularly well-suited for hothouse horticulture, as they can sometimes pick up tomato blight when planted outdoors.
What month should you plant St Pierre tomato seeds? You can begin to germinate your St Pierre tomato seeds inside from December to April. Letting your tomato plant become established indoors will stop bug infestations and flash frosts from killing your seedlings early. The germination cycle can take up to 14 days before sprouts start showing.
How high do St Pierre tomato plants grow? St Pierre tomato plants grow from 1-6 feet tall and continue to produce frosts until hard frosts come around. Your tomato plants need strong stakes or cages to support the height of the stem until you need to prune your plant to stop it from getting too tall.
What do I spray on my St Pierre tomatoes to stop pests? You can create a home made pesticide by mixing 1 tablespoon of baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon of mild washing detergent and 2 1/2 tablespoons of olive oil into 5 litres of water. Spray your solution on to your St Pierre tomato plant every week to stop bugs from attacking your crops.
