[60 days] Recommended by the National Institute of Agricultural Botany, this globular turnip is both beautiful and tasty. The roots grow quickly, maturing partially above the soil. When harvested small, they’re excellent roasted whole and are so sweet that even the larger ones taste great raw when grated into salads.

The tops are excellent added into salads and stir-fries. (They’re also particularly nutritious.) A quick and early grower, Snowball will keep you set in turnips from early summer through early winter. A Japanese heirloom from the 1800s.

How do you grow Snowball turnips? Snowball turnips need to be planted into well-rotted compost and sand. They grow best in rich soil that drains well as they prefer water at the head of the plant to thrive. You should provide spacing of at least 20cm between each of your Snowbell seeds and thin regularly.

When are Snowbell turnips ready to be harvested? Snowbell turnips can take up to 60 days before being ready to harvest, you can also harvest their leaves when they are 4-6 inches big.

How long can you leave Snowbell turnips in the ground? Snowbell turnips can be kept in the ground for several months as long as your soil is dry and doesn't get waterlogged. If there is any danger of lots of rain then you should consider pulling up your turnips as they can quickly be destroyed by moldy roots.
