Description

Bedfordshire Champion Seeds

[120 days] A reliable cropper and great keeper, Bedfordshire Champion onions have been one of the most popular British onion varieties for well over a century. Its golden-brown skin, crisp flesh, and mild flavour can’t be beat. The bulbs are large and truly some of the best keepers around.

Bred for the cooler summers of our UK climate, the Bedfordshire Champion is a late-maturing variety, and when stored correctly, should last all the way through the next spring.

Height: 45cm (18"). Spread: 10cm (4").

Common Questions

How do I protect my Bedfordshire Champion onions from pests? The best way to protect your onions from birds and insects is covering with fleece or netting. This is usually enough to stop many pests from eating your crops, just make sure you secure the netting by tucking in the soil or with rocks.

How often should you water Bedfordshire Champion onions? Your onions will need a lot of water but never overwater. Onions hate soggy soil and will not grow to their best. The best routine is to water to a depth of about 3cm one a week.

Do Bedfordshire Champion onions need full sun? Yes. Onions grow best in a full sun location. Make sure you plant your Bedfordshire Champion seeds in a sunny spot in the garden where other veggies won't be blocking direct sunlight.
