Unlike traditional or regular onions which grow as a single bulb. Shallots grow in a cluster of 4 or more, very much like garlic. Noticeably sweeter than regular onions the flavour is much more subtle.
At Growseed we offer Shallot sets sold in re-usable nettings of 15 bulbs or a selection of shallot seed which we have found that offers the best germination and taste.
Red Sun shallots are round and at full harvest are around the size of a golf ball – tennis ball depending on how many are grown per clump while Eschalote Grise is a very traditional French shallot grown as what some would refer to as a ‘banana shallot’
