Description

Trinidad Scorpion Chilli Seeds

[100–120 days] The Trinidad Scorpion is one of the world’s hottest chilli varieties, packing a fiery punch of up to 1.2 million Scoville Heat Units. These fierce little fruits are easily recognised by their signature “scorpion tail” and deep red skin once fully mature. Fruits typically grow to around 5cm long by 3cm wide, though most are slightly smaller. The flavour is intense, slightly fruity, and quickly overtaken by a scorching heat that’s definitely not for beginners.

Getting these chillies to germinate requires both patience and precision. Trinidad Scorpion seeds need sustained warmth to sprout—temperatures between 27–32°C are essential. For best results, use a heated propagator or place your seed tray in a consistently warm space. A temperature-controlled environment is crucial; anything cooler and germination may be slow, erratic, or fail altogether.

Once established, the plants need warmth, sunlight, and a long growing season—ideally in a greenhouse or polytunnel. If you’re up for the challenge, the results are truly worth it. Just remember: always handle the fruit with gloves, and avoid using a dehydrator indoors unless you enjoy the sensation of pepper spray in your kitchen!

Height: 90–120cm (36–48"). Spread: 45cm (18").

Common Questions

Why won’t my Trinidad Scorpion seeds germinate? These seeds require consistent warmth—ideally 27–32°C—to germinate. Without the right temperature and humidity, germination rates will drop dramatically. Use a heated propagator or place your tray inside a sealed plastic bag in a warm area.

How long do Trinidad Scorpions take to grow? From sowing to ripe red fruit takes around 100–120 days, depending on conditions. They start green and ripen to a deep red as they mature.

Is it safe to handle Trinidad Scorpion peppers? Always wear gloves when handling fruits, especially when cutting or preparing them. The oils can cause severe irritation and should be kept away from eyes and skin.
