Common Questions

When can I sow Tall Single sunflower seeds? Direct sow your sunflower seeds in spring, plant them out ready for germination in a full sun position once the dangers of frost have disappeared. If the soil is moist and workable then your seedlings will start to appear anywhere between 5 and 10 days. Thin your seeds once the reach about 2 feet tall with the strongest flower.

What is eating the top of my Tall Single sunflowers? Sunflower beetles and cutworms love feeding on your foliage and leaves. In small numbers they can cause little damage but if you start to get an infestation you need to work fast to remove the issues the pests pose. Cutworms tend to eat holes into your young sunflower seedlings and can cause irreparable damage.

What is wrong with my Tall Single sunflower? The most common problem that affects sunflowers is Sclerotinia stem rot, also known as white mold, which can cause your leaves to begin wilting and start to rot the heads of your Tall Single sunflowers. Your sunflowers can also be destroyed by rust, verticillium wilt and powdery mildew.
